Andi Ar Rahman, an INSPIRASI alumn from the 2025 cohort, is leading the Masure Project with a team of 16 members. Masure is a local word used by the Makean community in North Maluku, meaning “good.”

The project uses Nature Services Monitoring (Pemantauan Layanan Alam/PLA), a community-based approach that enables people to collect environmental data from their own surroundings. Andi was introduced to this method by his mentors, Cate and Ross, during his time in Auckland, where he also learned about the related concept of Ecosystem Services Monitoring.

Recently, the Masure Project team assessed the health of the Laka River in Kosa Village, Tidore Islands City, North Maluku. Using the biotilik method, they observed aquatic organisms as bioindicators of river health and measured the river’s water flow.

The project aims to foster understanding of conservation among young people and community members and encourage them to take an active role in protecting their local ecosystems.
