Andi Rahman Tuhuteru
About
Andi Rahman Tuhuteru hails from Gorom Island, East Seram, Maluku—an island rich with enduring traditions like sasi laut, a customary practice of ecological restraint, and the Kelimbata rain dance, rooted in reverence for nature.
With a degree in Communication Science from Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta, Andi later transitioned into rural development studies, drawn by the complexities of social transformation in rural Indonesia. As a community facilitator and member of FNKSDA (Nahdliyin Front for Natural Resource Sovereignty), he has been deeply involved in grassroots organizing and environmental advocacy, particularly around agrarian conflicts in places like Kulon Progo and Wadas.
Through the Indonesia Young Leaders Programme, Andi has deepen his understanding of sustainable development, expand his facilitation toolkit, and connect with peers across contexts. He’s particularly eager to learn from indigenous movements and sustainable practices in Aotearoa New Zealand to inspire solutions at home.
Outside of his professional life, Andi finds joy in hiking, reading, swimming, jogging—and especially cooking, a cherished activity that connects him with his mother and his roots. He hopes that his journey to New Zealand will not only enrich his perspective but also strengthen his credibility and influence in the gerontocracy-driven decision-making structures of his village.
